Yes, that is really the name, and there is a real story behind it.
Venecia Butler faced five separate cancer diagnoses and somehow kept her sense of humor through every one. She used to work in a day care, and one little boy there had a habit. Anytime he had to do something he did not want to do, he would groan, "Oh crap, I don't want to do that." When Venecia got hit with another diagnosis, she started saying it right back. Oh crap, I don't want to do that. It stuck, and it became her word for cancer itself. Not something to fear. Just crap, something you deal with and keep moving.
Fourteen years later, the run she inspired still carries her joke and her fight. The kids fun run starts at 6 p.m., the 5K goes off at 7, and everybody is encouraged to wear the wildest glow in the dark outfit they own. Pick your division (Traditional, Clydesdale, Athena, or Virtual if you cannot make it in person) and register at RunSignup.
Last year's run raised over $46,000 for Venecia's Foundation. Let's beat it this year.
