The sweet side

The Fudge Counter

Walk through the red doors on North Main and the smell finds you first. Jennifer South makes the fudge in-house, pan by pan. On most days the case holds chocolate, peanut butter, salted caramel, rocky road, chewy praline, red velvet, banana pudding, dark chocolate espresso, and orange creamsicle, plus a Butterfinger flavor that has its own fans.

It sells by the slice, the half pan, or the full pan. If you can't make the drive, they ship.

Off the board

Coffee, Scoops, and the Counter

The fudge gets the attention, but the counter does a lot more. There's hot coffee and lattes in the morning, smoothies and bubble tea in the summer, Blue Bell ice cream by the scoop, and Frios pops in the freezer. The bakery case holds macarons, cake pops, cookies, and scones. Bags of gourmet popcorn line one wall, and local honey sits on the shelves.

The coffee side opens early, so you can get a real latte in Piedmont before most of town is awake.

Keep walking

The Gun Counter

Past the candy cases, Greg South's side of the building takes over. It's a licensed FFL counter with handguns, revolvers, rifles, and shotguns behind the glass, plus ammunition, optics, holsters, and accessories on the wall. The brands are the ones you'd expect. Glock, Sig, Smith and Wesson, Browning, Ruger, and more.

Prices run from value guns around $250 up to hardware pushing $2,000. Transfers are a flat $25, and they recently added suppressors.

The building

Out Front on North Main

The business opened downtown in 2016 and moved to 614 North Main in 2019, putting both shops under one roof. Some folks still call the building the Chief Ladiga Trading Post, and that's the name on the paperwork. The sign out front and the mint-green Beetle parked beside it tell you what it is now.

There's patio seating under the umbrellas if you want to take your coffee and a square of fudge outside.
